In mid-February, Let’s Keep The Ball Flying (LKTBF) took an exciting step in expanding volleyball education by organizing its first-ever volleyball coaches’ course in Alexandra Township, Johannesburg.

Dutch coaches and LKTBF Fingerprints Neele Rave and Guus van den Elzen led the six-day course, providing 20 local sports trainers and teachers with the opportunity to learn, grow, and inspire future generations of volleyball players.
In collaboration with LKTBF’s Guru Project, which focuses on empowering local volleyball coaches and communities, we aim to provide knowledge, resources, and mentorship. The project ensures that volleyball is not just introduced but sustainably embedded in communities, led by local role models who can drive long-term change.

The course covered both practical and theoretical coaching methods, equipping participants with the skills to structure training sessions and effectively mentor young athletes. The energy and enthusiasm of the group, many from the township itself, were remarkable, demonstrating the growing passion for volleyball in the community.
One participant shared their experience:
"I've learned a lot and I enjoyed every exercise that I did with you guys. I wish it was possible to have you around for a while, but I’m grateful that I met you. Keep on inspiring and leaving a big footprint where you step."

This project is a key milestone in LKTBF’s mission to make volleyball accessible worldwide, especially in underserved communities where sport can be a powerful tool for social impact and empowerment.
Powered by the Volleyball Community
This initiative was made possible by the incredible volleyball community! The 24-hour volleyball marathon at Webton Hengelo in December 2024 raised funds to support this training and other grassroots volleyball projects. Organized by Webton Hengelo’s Men’s First Team, the event brought together volleyball players and supporters with a shared passion for giving back.
Building a Lasting Impact with Local Partners
The course was organized in partnership with Amandla - SafeHub, an organization dedicated to helping young people reach their full potential. SafeHub provides a safe, supportive environment where youth can access after-school programs, academic support, and sports training.
With additional support from Twinx and Greensource, this initiative marks a crucial step towards making volleyball more accessible and sustainable in the region.

By training local coaches, LKTBF is ensuring that the impact continues long after the course ends. Young athletes in SafeHub now have a chance to discover volleyball, develop their skills, and grow personally and professionally within a nurturing environment.
